Does anyone know how to get rid of a little gopher? Last summer one set up residence on our lawn and has at least 6-8 holes out there. Which is complicated even further because the neighbors dog dug a huge hole trying to catch it. We live in town so 'shooting him' isn't an option... nor do I have a gun .... or would I want to.... Any suggestions? Thanks!

There are a few Euphorbias which folks sometimes plant to repel/kill gophers. Search for "Gopher Euphorbia" on goodle:
http://www.google.com/search?q=gopher+euphorbia&sourceid=mozilla-search&start=0&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8
If you like a "tropical effect" you might plant Castor Bean, Ricinus communis, http://plantsdatabase.com/search.php?search_text=ricinus+communis&Search=Search it's another plant in the Euphorbia family, and it's roots are toxic to gophers. Though you need to keep an eye on the flowers, as the seeds are very poisonous to all mammals, including dogs and people.
Thanks, eje, I've never heard of such a thing and is certainly worth a try! Blessings.
I'm not sure if gopher's feed on grub worm's like moles do or not. We had mole problems and a serious grubworm problem too both of them causing serious damage to our lawn. I had tried all the chemical applications to beat the grubs but that plan never finished the job even after several attempt's. I did a search online and found a website: http://www.planetnatural.com/japanesebeetle_control.html
and they sell "Milky spores" and "beneficial nematodes". I can't say enough about the combo of these 2 products. It's a win win situation all the way around! The grubs are gone, moles are gone too, my lawn is lookin great and the instructions on these products say I'll always have healthy populations of these microscopic a$$ kickers. The spores are a longer term solution since they need a little time to get fully established. But once established, they move into the grubs bodies and slowly kill from the inside out. The best part is they never go away! When they kill 1 grub, they have multiplied their numbers by the millions literally and if there aren't any more grubs to infest, they go dormant until grubs appear again. The nematodes begin killing in 24 hours and kill over 230 common pests like fleas, ticks and fly larvae to list a few. Best of all, they don't harm any beneficial bugs in the ground like earthworms or beneficial bacteria in the soil.
I've recomended these products to friends and family only to hear the same happy endings. No grubs, no moles, no problem mon. If you decide to go this route, I found the company that makes the nematodes and you can save a little money. http://www.biologicco.com/index.htm
They also sell another species of nematode that isn't offered at Planet natural. I promise that if these gopher's feed on these grubs, these products are the end all period.
Good luck, JD
