FOR THE LAST TWO YEARS OUR AREA HAS BEEN INFESTED WITH THE LILY BEETLE WHICH COMPLETELY DEVASTATES ONES ORIENTALS. I USED EVERY ORGANIC PRODUCT I COULD FIND BUT TO NO AVAIL; A FRIEND CAPITULATED TO SEVIN AND SHE ENJOYED HER LILIES. ANYONE HAVE ANY HELPFUL INFO?
ORIENTAL LILY BEETLE
I have orientals which are about 3 inches high at the moment. I killed about 6 lily beetles on one plant two days ago. I have begun the constant watch to destroy them that lasts for the next few months. I check the plants every day, and I pick them off by hand and squash them. You can't let them escape by dropping to the ground. you have to get them all, because just one beetle can do an immense amount of damage. in a few days I will begin checking for egg masses on the undersides of the leaves, too. My answer is that I love the lilies, but I don't have very many because it is too hard to check every plant everyday.
I've grown lilies for 10 years or so I just had liliy beetles show up within the last two years. They are nasty critters!
