weeds with tiny white flowers everywhere

Pearisburg, VA(Zone 7a)

How do I get rid of this spreading weed? I don't know what it's called but it's fast moving and it's easily pulled so the roots are shallow. But there's so much of it. It's spreading into the grass as well. There are tiny white flowers on this monster. Can I spray it without killing true plants underneath that haven't started to grow?

You need to id it so you know if it's a perennial or annual. Different eradication techniques apply.

it is the first thing to turn green in the flower garden. it's every where and starting to spread into the grass. The leaves are tiny and deep green. It lives 9 months a year at least.

Anything like this?

Try contacting your state agriculture dept extension agent.

I doubt you are the only one in your area with this problem weed.

If you are, they certainly need to be aware of it, in case you picked it up in soil transfer, etc.

Good luck!!!

If it's chickweed, I think the roots are very shallow BUT they are also very fine and it seems like some of the roots stay behind in the soil when I pull weeds. I suspect they can eventually re-grow from those roots.
