CLOSED: weird bug

Greenville, SC(Zone 7b)

Can anyone ID this bug?
I found it in my garden yesterday. It's body is firm, and it wiggles back and forth. Its about 2 1/2 in long!
thanks

I haven't seen one of these since I was a kid! I don't know exactly what it is, but it's the pupal stage of something - I think it may be a moth. As far as I know, they aren't harmful to anything so I wouldn't get too worked up over it.

It's the pupae from a hornworm or sphynx moth.

Thank you very much for the info! This bug wont make it to the moth stage. Out of all the years of growing a garden I have never seen one of these before. I try and squish all the horn worms I find.

Thanks again

Now that I know it is a horn worm... I retract my earlier comment about not getting worked up.
