Schizanthus

Anyone have much luck with these? I love the intricate blooms but they peter out so quickly. Anyone have tricks to getting them to bloom longer? It doesn't seem to matter if I cut them back or not. Plants just dry up to nuthin after their brief flowering period.

Hi poppysue,

I grow them from seeds every year .
I love their gorgeousness at their best.
They are so catching.
The flowers are so sensitive to rain I plant them in pots
and place them in dry spaces.
This way they bloom from March to the end of April.

Golly, poppysue....you're always coming up with some of the prettiest flowers!!! I think our tastes must run similarly. I'm gonna have to go research your trade lists/journal for more ideas 'cuz I don't think you've posted a pic that I haven't fallen head over heals in love with. Brenda

I planted a pack of these seeds this year all in one flat of 6 packs. I didn't figure EVERY ONE of them would germinate! They're so tiny that I didn't do any thinning. I hope that's okay? lol They also said they would take up to a month to germinate in complete darkness and mine were all up within a week! So they don't like rain eh? Hmm...
