Here's my Aloe plicatilis going through a big growth spurt, branching out already, and getting set to flower this Spring. The same plant can be seen last summer in my GH on the PDB:

Branching Out in the Greenhouse
I was looking at this in the nursery just the other day. The way they grow is quite interesting.
Mine don't grow anything like that, it is more chunky. They are also a blue gray, and have been growing in the same pot since 1983 I have two clones, one has longer leaves than the other also it has longer flowers. I am wondering if it because it is getting more shade. The older plant came from the Vincent Price estate, my daughter was baby sitting the house. Mr. Price's plant was at least 8" high in front on the kitchen window. I know they get very large so I won't put it into the ground. I will not transplant it into a larger pot until about July. I haven't been able to get it to set seed, I have X pollinated it with the other clone. Norma
