old hard drive

I have an old hard drive that just won't start up (in another tower). I just realized which pictures are on it, dear GD's first birthday. Is it possible to hook that hard drive up as a secondary on this computer and get those pictures? is there anyway to do it without having to pay big bucks I don't have?
