Recycle bin in

I have Windows 2000 NT on my Dell laptop.

Recycle Bin receives deleted items but shows none in the window!!!

Although when I click to empty the recycle bin, it wants to know if I really want to delete the 35 files (or whatever) that are there but don't show up. I have clicked and reclicked on the options in the preference windows and got it to work once for a short time, but it's not been working for the past couple of weeks. Anybody know how to fix it?
