Euphorbia ammak var. variegata

Northern California, CA

Last spring my E. ammak var. variegata was beheaded in a freak windstorm. The mother plant is still pretty beaten up, but the "head" is making great strides.

Images of the whole plant can be seen in the PDB: http://plantsdatabase.com/go/58819/

Here's the progress that the now rooted top is making. The image on the left was taken mid-August and the right was taken this evening.

Wow, it is really coming along nicely. I had one of these about 13 years ago and haven't grown it since. Is this the species that also come in a red/maroon color as well. Norma

I think the "red" Euphorbia you are thinking of is probably this one: Euphorbia trigona f. Rubra

It also comes in a plain green variety ( E. trigona

My E. trigona f. Rubra suffered the same process several times. From time to time the meristem gets damaged (it usually dries up, mind you) and the plant stops growing. But them, new meristematic cells are developed, and it starts growing again, with a mark, a constriction where the damage took place. My plant is full of those scars, but still looks healthy.

Very pretty plant. I love the markings on these plants. They seem to "evolve" rather than grow.
