What candles are good?

Okay, I need your collective advice here. We ladies of the family are on a quest for long-lasting, good smelling candles. My MIL wants votives for her numerous little candle lamps. My mom and I are more interested in pillars. My MIL tried a Party Light candle, but wasn't impressed by the quality for the price. We bought some pumpkin scented candles at Wal-Mart and they seem to be doing pretty well, but they're poured candles in glass containers.

So, what brand of candles works well for you? We have Wal-Mart, Target, Pier 1, Kroger and Meijer nearby and can get to K-Mart and Kohls if need be.
