I also live in z8b and have grown mine in the ground for several years. I just mulch it in winter. Why don't you take a nice sized cutting and leave the big root in the ground?

This picture looks like a painting! This is a tough plant, it will come back after harsh winters if you follow Flickerīs sugestion.

I wonder if this would work for the Thurmbergia, Battiscombie???? Anyone know......Mine is so big and I have so much to protect already..........Think I will take some cuttings, plant it and see what happens.....
