digging dahlias

Mount Angel, OR(Zone 8a)

Well, we started digging and harvesting dahlia tubers on Tuesday. It has been so dry and warmish here in the high 40s and low 50's. By afternoon it feels very pleasant. Light frosts at night. The digging process is all by hand with a potato fork and going very well, my dh and I are doing all the digging and we have some help cutting the clumps apart and washing the tubers. We are trying to be so very very careful keeping all the various varieties separated. We will probably have another week before we get done. Rain is forecast for Saturday. This will makes things a bit more difficult.Hope it holds off a day longer.
