i recd this in the mail from a gardening friend in fl. is it hardy here or will the cold kill it. should i container plant it or can i leave it in the ground???help???

Read what Trish wrote in the comments. I think she was in the same zone as you when she posted it.
But if it were me, and I had plenty of seeds I would try doing it both ways. That way you can tell more about it that way from your own experience. That is what I do when I am unsure of things and I have plenty to work with.
If it works out where it is hardy for you and the one planted in the ground comes back for you, then you can go ahead and plant your container grown plant in the garden and be on the safe side.

hmmm, Guess then I would pot them both up and winter them over in the greenhouse and then next year when they are bigger there might be a baby plant that you can leave outside to try and over winter it.

I am about 20 miles off the Mississippi Gulf Coast & mine has come back past 2 years. I
do take cuttings every fall just
to have a back-up plant. Flame vine root very easy.
