'spp.' after name of cactus

Jacksonville, IL(Zone 5a)

Could someone one please explain what the 'spp.' at the end of a cactus name means? Thanks.

Valinda, CA(Zone 10a)

Species, not a hybrid.

Valley Village, CA

In all plant and animal classifications they will breck it down in sections. I give you another example. DOG BREEDS
KINDS: Hunting dogs: minatures,
HOUNDS Subsp. Wolfhounds, Dashounds, Beagles, Greyhounds,
TERRIER
v. WestHighland
v. Silky
v. Terry Blue
v. Kerin
Now I'm going on to plants, and will take it right out of the book.CRASSULACEAE Flora of Southern Africa
Crassula: Species C. sarcocaulis
1. They will list the varieties first then,
(a) subsp sarcocaulis
(b) subsp. rupicola
then they will also list all the synom. under each of the above.
The abbreviation for subsp. is ssp. I hope I explained this correctly. They also break it down to Sect. (Sections) first. Then go into the species. Very Technical Norma

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

spp - is an abbreviation referring to several species, whereas sp. means one specie.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil(Zone 11)

spp. is used when you are refering to several species of a certain genus, not specifying which is which one.

Like, you may be talking about Opuntia cochenilifera, O. microdasys, O. stricta and O. tunicata (or all the opuntias of the world), you may as well reffer to them all as a whole as Opuntia spp.
