How do you clean containers?

I need to put my containers away for the winter and because of the wet summer, I have a lot with mildew and algae stains. How do you get this off? I would prefer a non-poisonous solution, if possible. I would appreciate any help with this question! Thanks!

Clorox bleach, and a strong dishwashing detergent.
