A DUMB "YANKEE" QUESTION

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

Have a quest. I'm hoping some of my friends "across the pond" can answer. I recently sent for the Thompson&Morgan catalog. I specified I wanted the U.S. version. I had a hard time i.d.ing some of the plants b/c of the differences in plant names- even the latin names were diff. I thought the names were "standardized" all over the world. Now, I know you have plants we don't grow here, but I thought {for ex.} a rose is rosa everywhere. Hope you guys don't think I'm one of those dumb yanks. Actually, I live in Georgia, so technically here in the U.S., I am def. not one. I am considered {by most folks here} to be a redneck and I'm proud of it. I know this is too long so I'll let you all go and get back to your tea!! hahaha!! Debbie

The botanical names should be the same. Rosa is Rosa world over

Do you have an example?

There are changes going on all the time.

Mark, I don't have the catalog right now, but I'll bring it in and peruse it again!!! Rose was prob. a poor choice, I couldn't recall any of the names. I'll be back on Tues. night with the info. I should have waited til I had the catalog in front of me-sorry!!!!
