Computert Doesn't Always Shut Off

Often when I go to Start>Shut Down>Ok, the computer goes through it's motions but will not shut off. If I click or move the mouse, most of the time it shuts off. Sometimes it willl not shut off, and I have to go to the on/off button, with Scan Disk operating on the next Start Up.

I thought it might have been the mouse, but with a new mouse (Logitech), nothing has changed.

Is this inherited and common with W 98 (2)? Or maybe Gateway?

Where did I learn to spell? Computert?
