Is it Cranberry Hibiscus (H. acetoscella)?

Byron, IL(Zone 4a)

Badseed it sure looks like what was in the hyperlink. Sure hope it makes it over the winter. I don't know where to see the cranberry pic. It sure is a beauty tho even without flowers. Thanks

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I grew it from seed a couple of years ago. :) If you look up cranberry Hibiscus on google, it will take you back to the Hibiscus acetosella.

Franklin, NC(Zone 6b)

Looks like it to me. I grew them in FL and they really are spectacular. They're tasty too! http://www.echonet.org/tropicalag/knowledgebank/EDN_articles/edn_73_8.html

Sweetwater, TX(Zone 7a)

Is that hardy hibiscus? (rose mallow, or Hibiscus moscheutos, not rose of sharon, which is H. syriacus) If so, it may be Kopper King. Kop. King. is a hybrid of H, moscheutos.

Check it out at Wayside Gardens http://www.waysidegardens.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/StoreCatalogDisplay?storeId=10151&catalogId=10067&langId=-1&mainPage=prod2working&ItemId=40893&FromTextSearch=hibiscus

Here's another link. http://www.northcreeknurseries.com/Plants/Hibiscus%20x%20%27Kopper%20King%27.htm

What do you think?

The leaves are very different. Look at the number of lobes and even lack of them.

Sweetwater, TX(Zone 7a)

Yup. I see the difference in leaves.

So, I-fish, if you want the same red foliage on a HARDY hibiscus, go for Kopper King!

I wish it WAS a hardy pernnial, but it's a tender perennial at best. Fortunately they grow so quickly from seed that we yankees can enjoy them as an annual.

How about this one; first blooms on it but frost is around the corner; afraid we won't see the flower this year.

That's a canna behind it.

This Lord Baltimore Hibiscus is Hardy in Zone5. Dies down to the ground each year. 6-7 foot high & covered with huge flowers most of the summer.

TLC, do you know which yours is or are you asking? I had one last year with leaves like that and had a horrible time getting it identified. It had awesome burgundy flowers!!

Franklin, NC(Zone 6b)

The one with the canna behind it reminds me of a Hibicus coccineus. Did the flowers look like the one in this thread?

Badseed,
Yes, I am asking . .

The flowers are just ready to bloom if we don't get a frost or freezel if they make it will post a pic.

Just waiting for now.

Franklin, NC(Zone 6b)

Oops, sorry...wasn't reading closely enough. I hope you get a bloom before frost so we can solve this mystery.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Arlene, does this one look like yours? http://davesgarden.com/fp.php?pid=41809

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

This was the flower on the one above. http://davesgarden.com/fp.php?pid=368103 I didn't get seeds on this one last year and am hoping to get them. I loved the flower on this, but know to start them earlier next time! LOL

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

Badseed,
beautiful flower! Wish that were mine.

But here is what it is, thanks to everyone's help

http://plantsdatabase.com/go/1872/

If it blooms I will post a pic; so sad to see it is not hardy to zone 4B. It grew to about 4 feet the first year.
Will mulch it good and cross my fingers but it is also in the garden that has the cold North exposure.

Cedar Rapids, IA(Zone 5a)

Badseed, love the bloom!!! But , my daughter accused my of growing "weed" in the back yard. the leaves are similiar looking to hemp...
