Where are the Dahlias?

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Well about to give up. All these dahlias and only 1-2 blooms. The one in front is about 6 1/2' and was to produce a peppermint dahlia, others from new bulbs and some from last year???

My guess would be right there with mark.....what did your blooms look like?

And detail of the stalks of this HUGE plant.

There is also Dahlia tenuicaulis, but mine is still very small.

The few blooms I have had were the pompoms and quite small and they have been very few. Got one yellow cactus from a plant last year.

Here's a link to some additional information on Dahlia imperialis:

Dahlias need a lot of sun or they grow really tall looking for it, too much water before they sprout impedes bloom, and too much fertilizer gives you great foliage, but few blooms. Just some thoughts on my experiences.

Thanks happen, too much water was probably it. They were practically planted in the rain and got nothing else but all spring and early summer. They get nuf sun there and did wonderfully last year. Think that wet spring is what got them.
