Here's a fella I snapped last week, sitting on what would be a rather uncomfortable spot for us LOL.

I think it's a male Common Darter - does anyone out there know?

I think you're right, though my book doesn't give a common name (rude or not LOL). It looks like Sympetrum striolatum, which is the commonest Sympetrum. There are several similar apparently.
