Lanceleaf violets

Orlando, FL(Zone 9b)

This little violet is one of the most unassuming plants I have seen yet. It's native to a good portion of the US. It is almost inconspicuous when not in bloom. I found this one as a surprise in the rootball of another plant (Hypericum fasciculatum) which I had rescued from a wet pine flatwoods area near the airport (with proper permits, escorts, permissions, etc. etc.) I didn't even know it was there until it bloomed. The bloom itself is only about 1/4 to 3/8 inches wide. Each flower lasts a few days. They spread by a shallow rhizome. Moist soil is a must for these guys. They are quite happy tucked into the rocks around the waterlevel of my pond and in my bog garden. You can see the woody stem of the H. fasciculatum in this picture, which is about 1 inch in diameter.
