Considering the discussion Birdsall, TC and I were having in the VIRUS thread at http://davesgarden.com/t/394684/ , this info from PCWorld today was timely:

Selling or donating your used computer are great ideas; giving away your personal data is not. WipeDrive overwrites your data, destroying it more effectively than disk reformatting can. It permanently erases all data--even data in partition tables and different drive formats--from any size of hard drive, and it verifies that data has been erased.
