i have a hot pink almost fusia looking morning glory. i planted scarlet o hare in the same place. some one said to me yesterday the fusia like hot pink is the scarlett o hare. i thought the scarlet is red like actual red? am i wrong? thanks

I am sorry, wish I could answer your question BUT I too, planted the scarlett and I have a hot pink one that sounds identical to yours growing there now, and I ONLY planted scarlett seeds there so I know mine is not red!!! I had seen photos of the scarlett and to me they looked RED, but mine are NOT.

some one else emailed me too saying they planted scarlett and theirs come out hot fusia pink too. unless i find out different then i will assume they are hot fusia pink and not red from now on. hehe

IMHO - and I say this because I've grow both... not because I know this for fact ...

'Scarlet O'Hara' is a Japanese Glory (Ipomoea nil) and the color is not truly red but a deep magenta red. The color goes deep into the throat, like this... http://shop.timwebworks.com/halifaxseed/product.asp?dept_id=2000&pf_id=FS230R I still wouldn't call it red ....

There's another 'Scarlet O'Hara' that has been marketed and it's an Ipomoea tricolor variety with flowers that are more of a fushia-pink. They're smaller and they have a white throat. It looks a lot more like the 'Crimson Rambler'... again, this is MHO. http://www.thompson-morgan.com/seeds/us/product_6360_2.html http://www.victoryseeds.com/catalog/flowers/annuals/Ipomoea_tricolor.html

So... your fushia glory most likely came from the Scarlet O'Hara seeds... It's true ID is debateable

I my Scarlet O'Hara looks like crimson rambler too. More pink then red...

Poppysue, then what are those? Any modifications to be made there? What do we call the colour of the petals there?

Dinu, Yours looks more like the Scarlet O'hara than the other photos do. Here's a couple of websites that have pictures of both varieties

The member comments in the PDB discuss the ID mix-up too.
