Ants on my plants help!

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

I've got tiny ants running up & down my vines & plants. Is there a special spray or prevention remedy for ants on plants? Should I worry about them? Any ideas????

I think for ants, the sevin dust.........not sure exactly how it's spelled should work
I use Garden Safe Fungicide3 Concentrate. It's 3 garden products in one (Fungicide, Insecticide, Miticide) it's by Schultz and I found it at WalMart. Don't remember how much it cost but it was right around $7 or so and it makes up to 16 gallons. You can use it on roses, flowers, vegetables, trees, fruits, shrubs and houseplants.

isn't that how it usually goes?
I'll come home from there and then need something else........thank goodness it's only 3 minutes from my house :)

If you have ants check for aphids, mealybugs or scale insects. They ants "herd" these insects for the excess sugars they excrete. They protect them from predators and move them from plant to plant.

Do you have access to tansy? If so, make a strong tea of the leaves and spray it on the plants. That should repel them. Them mix some sugar and boric acid and set around in little dishes. The sugar attracts the ants and the boric acid kills them. If you can find the nest pour really hot water down it if it isn't too close to some plants you really want to save. Sevin, Malathion, or most insecticides will kill ants. Ortho has one just for ants and termites.

Leaflady, I LOVE YOU ☺ I'll try the tea :)
