I discovered this beauty on my way home from work today on the little country road I live on. I've never seen it before. I believe it is Smooth Wild Petunia (Ruellia strepens). There are several plants in addition to this one so you can bet that some of them will end up on the edge of my woods.
Summer bloomer
Sure looks like Ruellia sp. to me. If you want to collect seeds, they bloom and set seed throughout the year. Look for little brown pods at the tops of the plant. They will spread readily by seed.
