Row Cover

Lexington, NC(Zone 7a)

I can't find it now but sometime back I brought up the idea of covering tomatoes with row cover material to keep worst of sun off of them. My maters are looking good so far, all of them but worst of the heat is still ahead. Covered one tomato plant with row cover and held together with clothes pins. I am not bragging about how neat it looks, hopefully will do better next time but thought you might want to see what it looks like.

Looks like a good idea Sparks. I bet it keeps some bugs off too - I use it on low stuff like brocolli for just that purpose. How do you suppose it will hold up when the wind blows hard? I have to pin it down tight to keep it from blowing away.

Bob, all I can say is we will have to wait and see. The wind did get it once but hopefully it is pinned down better now.

I'm going to give it a shot, Sparks. I grow my tomatoes in concrete re-wire cages so I have plenty places to pin the cover. I'll let you know what happens.
