i have a 15 foot tree are these bay leaves? as in cooking

Prain... My bay leaf "bush" will not tolerate our winter temps (zone 6b) so I bring it in for the winters... and I DO use the leaves for cooking. You might take some leaves to the local extenion service or whatever equivalent you have... better safe than sorry. I also have several laurels in the garden, but they don't have edible leaves...

Hi Prain!!

there is a simple way: crush a leaf and smell it - if it is the same smell like those of the bay leaves at the spice rack, then you go ahead. If not, you need one.
If you want, I 'll write a recipe for brown lentil soup in the recipes forum. Just ask!!
