Black Eyed Susans - Todo variety

Orland Park, IL(Zone 5a)

If anyone could help I would surely appreciate it. I just got a Todo black eyed susan. I never saw anything like it and can't seem to get any info on it. I was told that it was an annual. If anyone has any of these or has grown them any info would be welcome. Thank You.

Beesuite, it must be 'Toto', which is a dwarf variety of black-eyed Susan. The Latin name is Rudbeckia hirta 'Toto'. http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=rudbeckia+toto&sa=N&tab=wi

I bought one of these plants this spring also. At the nursery they told me that it wasn't a perennial, but it would reseed, and if we have a very mild winter, the plant may come back but not to count on it. They did assure me that there would be seedlings next spring though and told me to take a good look at the leaves now, so I don't hoe out the seedlings next spring.

Mine was supposted to live the winter, but did not. However, downtown, there exists a very old black eyed susan, which is about ten feet tall, it must be several years old, so I know it is possible in my zone. One thing is they need to be well established before winter sets in and I planted mine too late in the season.

Another things is you can keep it as a house plant and it just does great, and then plant it outside again in the spring.

I, too, just discovered this little cutie and have to get some, Anyone have a source for this plant (not seeds) that is fairly reasonably priced?

I found a source for the Rudbeckia hirta 'Toto' plants for $5.99 each in the Spring Hill Nursery catalog. They are online at ... http://www.SpringHillNursery.com/
