Skunk under the house

My parents had a skunk under the house. They watched at night to see it leave and then filled in the hole it had dug. Every night it got back under the house. They called someone and was told she probably had a litter under the house and that's why she dug the hole again to get back in. The adult skunk has left, my parents think it was run over. How do you find out if there are babies still under the house and what can they do about them? There is nothing under the house so they can't get under to check. thanks for your help.

Smell will tell. Not the great stink they make when they spray, but there's always a residual skunk smell wherever they are....

Thanks Darius, I will tell my Mother.

If at all possible; scatter moth balls around and under the house.

CoCo I think they tried this already, but I'll tell them. Thanks.

Oh no Elsie! Your poor parents!! What a dilema -- let us know what happens.

I haven't heard anything new. They're only assuming there were skunklets under there because the adult skunk went back under every night. I'm thinking it was trying to get out of the rain.

My Mother asked me to see if anyone knows what to do now. The adult skunk has left and they think the baby skunks have died under the house. There is a smell and they don't know what to do. The only people access to under the house is a panel that opens on the stairs. But a person couldn't get under the house. Any ideas?

One thing you might do is check with an exterminator to see if they have some chemical or other substance that can be used to remove the smell or check with your local Wildlife Association and ask them what might be done.

Thanks Coco I'll suggest that to them.

We sprayed lime after a skunk and possum decided they would try to be room mates under our house. They weren't a good match, to say the least. It worked pretty well and kept other critters from moving in.
