Woolly Bear Caterpillar

Lutz, FL(Zone 9b)

We have 3 different woolly bear cats. This one, one whose hair is all black and a black one with the center 1/3 of its body is red. Does anyone know if these are all different??

I always find these caterpillars traveling, not eating. I've been doing some reading. Seems the most common is the banded WB which is the one with the red-brown middle, the Isabella Moth larvae. All the woolly bears are the larvae of the tiger moths of which there are many! The woolly bear caterpillars eat a variety of grasses and weeds such as dandelions, clovers, and nettles...that means they are right at home in my yard!! LOL

Yep, if you see them traveling alot then they are most likely from the Tiger Moth (Arctiidae) family.
There are never enough to eat all the weeds :)

a little correction of my spelling
