Thoughts please

Probably totally impractical but I've been in the greenhouse most of the day and am dispairing at the amount of plants versus garden space. For instance Begonia sutherlandii has produced lots of little baby tubers just coming out of dormancy. I would offer a lot of the extra plants for swap but some will be difficult to send in the post by next week so I had a thought, how do people feel about a UK/European swap meet/garden party? Perhaps somewhere in the midlands? That way we can load up our transport with goodies and get to meet each other at the same time.

Anybody want to chime in with an opinion or am I just blowing hot air as usual?

only if there is an Easyjet airport close by

Essex, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

Good idea! I find it easier & quicker to get to say Birmingham than London & London is only 40 ish miles away from me!

Sorry, not for me really. No transport and not near enough. Lovely idea though.

Wow wasn't sure I'd get any kind of positive response, thanks!

As for the hows, wheres and whens I'm open to ideas. I think East Midlands airport in Leicestershire is one for Easyjet. Don't write us off just yet Northerner! :)

Any preferences for a group visit to an open garden or similar? Having lived dahn sarfff for a good 20 years, I'm not too well up on the local attractions.

As for time we could try this year or perhaps early next year and I was also thinking of throwing the invitation open to all comers too.

Any ideas appreciated :)

Newcastle to Belfast Intl,
Southampton to Belfast City,
Gatwick/Stansted to Belfast Intl,
Birmingham to Belfast Intl

Birmingham, United Kingdom

Lovely idea, but how would we get our plants there and back?

I take it no-one wants to do it then! Good try anyway Debbie

Sorry I missed this thread being posted to!

Well, it was just a thought floating around and sometimes they take off and people get enthusiastic. I'm still interested and thought some time in late August/September would mean we'd catch the best of the weather. Maybe it's something we could do next spring when we've all managed to do our winter sorting.

there are no day return flights from S'hampton to Belfast. What is your next nearest airport

Bournemouth, the south seems to be covered in airports *G*.

I already said I was in - just that I'm in Scotland at the moment, so have been unable to follow up. You know that Mark!

Ooops, just two letters missing - makes all the difference!

Aw shucks, Baa, I'd have driven to - at least, Coventry. To share my seeds (don't have any plants to swap, alas). Then I could have called in at the HDRA, en route!

Let me know if the idea's still viable...

(You can always send me a private e-mail, perhaps thru the Other Site we both frequent?)
