Euthanzing a horse?

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Just got a call from my brother in Kentucky. My mare that I raised from a baby has foundered again. This time it's gotten so bad, there is no hope. She can hardly walk. She's 25 years old. The only humane thing to do is euthanize her. I'm going to fly home to be with her. My brother won't/can't do it. My mom I wouldn't let do it. Has anyone had experience with this? What should I know? The vet will come out, but I don't want it to be tramatic for the horse. This is a SMALL town. The vets are not very sensitive to these type of things. I also wonder how I can find out about zoning laws. I'd like to have her buried on the property. Thanks for your help.
