Del Sol Sunflowers with tomatoes

I planted out my tomatoes in 7 gallon pots. I was wondering if it would be feasable to put 1 Del Sol sunflower seed in the back of each pot? Will this 5' sunflower suck all the life out of the container and leave the tomato plant suffering?

A seven gallon pot is just above the minimum 5 gal needed to get decent growth with one tomato plant.

If it were me I'd not plant anything else in that pot.

Since Carolyn hasn't answered this question,I'm figuring she's just being modest.Actually,she's the author of the best tomato book on the market. 100 Heirloom Tomatoes for the American Garden.My dog eared copy sits beside my computer desk as I type.I'm sure it's available in Canada too...check on Amazon.

Thanks for the advice Carolyn. I think I'll put them in the ground between and behind the pots. I just liked the idea of the two together against the side of the house.
