I need to rescue a patch of Jack in the pulpit plants that are in bloom now. They are in the path of a construction project. The area is N.E.Texas.Any help in saving these plants would be appreciated.
How to transplant Jack in the Pulpit
Make sure you dig deep enough to get down to the bulb. Take as much "native" soil as you can and give them a similar habitat to live in. I've found they move easily, if you get the bulb and if they like the soil.
If you mark where the plant is now, when it goes dormant, the roots die off as well. They grow a whole new set of roots every spring. They're really easy to just pick up when rootless.
Dawn
Make sure you get plenty of the soil they are growing in. Never tried transplanting Jack-in-the-pulpit. Good luck! I hope you are successful. If even one survives, you have saved a plant from destruction. They are neat little plants and very colorful when full of the red berries.
Just wanted to know how you made out with the rescue?
I just transpants some of mine to another location where they can be enjoyed, so far so good.
