help with dyeing curtains

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

My decorating tends to be color-blind. I have fought this for years. Well, now I have a light teal rug, but everything else is brown, tan or cream. I want to dye the curtains a terra cotta color. However, these curtains have a tag that says they should be dry-cleaned. I have been washing them for years in cold water and they look great. I line-dry them and they come out looking like they've been pressed. But dyes require hot water. I am scared to try that. Does anyone think I could disolve the dye in hot water, let it cool somewhat and then add the curtains? Help me make this drastic step, lol.
