Robber Flies

These are interesting creatures...

You can sometimes hear these buzzing by...

I only saw these for a short time last year then they were gone. It will be interesting to see when they come back

That last one looks like it is from a sci-fi movie!

That first robber fly looks like he's been in a drive by shooting--still has the evidence!

Looks like a drive by kidnapping! There's a good write up on these in FF Insects. I hope to get some better pictures this year. They do look like they belong in a sci-fi movie...but notice the front foot(?) He's holding on, like a hand...weird...I didn't know bugs could do that.
