I have just noticed that the leaves on my Hawthorn hedge are opening, seems eary to me, even when I walked my dog Jodie on the beach today the Hawthorn by the dunes has leaves. I love it when the the hedges get their leaves as my garden becomes my sanctury again. I am sociable really just love my privacy when I'm working in the garden.
Hawthorn leaves are sprouting
on the M1 here in N Ireland there is a stretch of Hawthorn that always comes into leaf and flower way ahead of all the others
I love the vivid green colour of the new leaves and it makes my heart sing to think of Spring and new growth. I have planted some Blackthorn for those wonderful sloes but may be a while before they fruit.
This reminds me that when I was a child we used to call the new hawthorn leaves "bread and cheese" and eat them!!
