Snake Repellant

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Did some initial fix ups at End of Earth road today and found a snake skin in the bathroom. The place needs a lot of work, but the snakes must go first. Anyone familiar with a surefire snake repellant. Would need something to put under the house as a beginning as the cottage sits up on blocks about 2' off the ground. Not sure if the skin was a black snake (best guess), but there are 110 acres and are sure to be some copperheads around. Any tips appreciated,

Nice pics! Makes me wanna live there!

Some folks swear by sulphur. Depending on who it is they will either sprinkle it around their house OR set saturate an old carpet with it, then light it up...the ashes go around the house.

I actually don't know if there really is a true snake "repellent" (altho I've seen commercial boxes of them).

Thanks, sounds like a beginning. I've always been told the best remedy to get rid of a snake is "get a bigger snake" LOL. Hope the sulphur works cause I really don't want to have to get a python or boa LOL!

HAH...Well, if I come across some more info in a search I'll holler back at ya.

Thanks for your help.

Is there any proof to the mothball theory, that putting mothballs around will deter snakes?

Camilla, GA(Zone 8a)

Moth balls, sulphur or "Snake Away"(manufactured here & mostly sulphur) will not deter Copperheads, Oaks, or any that I have roaming here in my area, have tried them all..

Haighr...sounds like you're gonna have to get a mongoose then. ;>)
By the way Larkie, we have copperheads here also, but what is an "oak"?

Anything Larkie for copperheads???

Camilla, GA(Zone 8a)

Haighr, only thing here is a shotgun and good aim..I don't like to kill them, but if we didn't we would be over run..We have them not only at the ponds but in the flower beds, on the porches and places too close for comfort, we have had more than one pet rushed to the Vet from these critters, and we have a grandson and small neices and nephews running around..If they would just stay at the ponds it would be ok....

Shoe, an Oak is just short for the White Oak runners, harmless really, but they raise like roaches and rats..and they eat our eggs, and small fowl..They are very partial to getting into the house..They also love the huge oak trees here, you have to look up, down and all around when you are in southwest GA..LOL

Ohhh...okay, thanks Larkie! White Oak runner sounds like a type of blacksnake...bet we have them here too. I tend to catch them and take up the road to the river and turn em loose.
(Wonder if they're good to eat?)

We certainly have the gun issue covered. The main reason for the investment is hunting and fishing ground. Will keep the area around the cottage well groomed and hope they stay out in the wooded area.
