Long-Legged Fly

Lutz, FL(Zone 9b)

Family:Dolichopodidae
My insect book said they should be called "minute metallic flies" and are best recognized by their small size, metallic colors, bulging and widely separated eyes and by their habit of running about rapidly on plants. This one is about a quarter inch long.

Oh, cool, Stacey (got it right this time, LOL). He really is very metallic. It's funny, that necrotic plant tissue looks for all the world like skin, doesn't it?

Yep, you got it! Y'all don't have these little flies? Some are bright green like this one, others are bright blue and there's a silvery gold one. I thought of skin as soon as I opened this up...get the lotion quick!
