Shortest day - yippee!!!

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

So we've reached the shortest day and now they'll be getting longer again.
FOG again this morning (it started as I was driving home last night, which was very inconsiderate of it!
And it's so dark this morning.
Still it'll be darker where you are Evert (that's a comforting thought for me LOL :)

So things are looking up, hurrah!
Do you have daylight-savings-time in the summer? I wish we'd keep it all year around.

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

Yes, we do Ulrich.
Didn't realise you do down in sunny California (I'm assuming that's CA??)

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

At least we don't have fog ;) :P

Our days start getting longer in the first days of next year.

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

Yes, you've got the last laugh there Evert :P

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Hm Hm :) See, there are at least something good living up North.

Last winter we had some horrible foggy days when it was about +1 to +4 C, it lasted for about two weeks, it was always foggy, it was just awful. I like fog in Summer, but not in Winter. Also I like freezing temperatures in Winter but not in Spring and definitely not in Summer ;) hehe

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

Yep the fog here is not going to lift all day :(

Manhattan Beach, CA(Zone 11)

Evert, are those hahahahahah times daylite-savings (US spelling) or standard time?
Phil, you can click on the green 'CA' to the left or on my name to see the location.

Wha??

Manhattan Beach, CA(Zone 11)

Whaddaya mean "Wha??"? Please look at my first response in this thread. And don't wait so long; three minutes, geesh!

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

I don't understand what you mean. Those are official sunrise and sunset times for those days.

Antrim, Northern Ire, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

those are most likely without daylight saving. it is for us anyway.

Ulrich, I hope I'm enjoying myself when I'm 74 years young in 30 years time.

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Finland uses daylight saving in the summer, not sure about GB?

Manhattan Beach, CA(Zone 11)

Evert, you are way ahead of the average 15 year old in the USA. (Just did read your Member Page). Are the average Finns that smart? Wow!

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Am I? =)

Not sure, but we are the ranked the #1 readers, coffee drinkers, and Finland is the less corrupted country in the world (nothing to do with the question though).

Intelligence has a lot to do with it.

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

:]

I was wrong btw, just saw this in news:

Today (22.12) is the shortest day of the year (talvipäivänseisaus = winter solstice?). The sun won't rise all day up north in Lapland (about 1100 km North from our place..).

So, now days will start getting longer earlier than I thought. Very slowly anyway.

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

There you are Evert - cause for celebration after all
Must say I thought the solstice was the same for all of us but didn't like to argue as you're so intelligent *G*

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

Usually it is December 21st but sometimes it is 22nd, something to do with Earth's position to the Sun or.. never mind =)

Castelnau RB Pyrenée, France(Zone 8a)

Yes - this year 21st :)

What time is it in Finland? you're up late aren't you it's 1.15am here and you're further east!

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

I'm 2 hours ahead of you
