preparing dry gourds

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

okay, I've read til I'm blue in the face, followed links and drooled over all of your gourds. please start me off right, I'm memory impaired (honest) and can't remember where I saw something and what it said, so if you would say it once more here, I will love you forever.

I have completely dry gourds. I want to stain one and paint the others. Tell me how to clean them and get them ready, please??

Tig,. I soak mine in soapy water for an hour or less...then use a "chore-girl" type kitchen scrubber(copper or brass) to scrape off the outter skin...I use the "feel" system ....keep rubbing my hands over the gourds until they feel smooth all over...there will still be the darkend spots from the mold, but I really think these add to the character if you're just going to stain them...and if you paint them they will be covered up anyhow. Hope this helps. Jo
