Blind birds?

Harford County, MD(Zone 6b)

We've been noticing several finch around here that seem to be blind in one or both eyes. There was one on the patio today and I went right up to it and it didn't fly, just kind of hopped around, then when it did fly it didn't go far .You could tell it didn't know where it was going. Both eyes look shut.Do you think there is some kind of disease or do they peck each others eyes out or something?

yes, it's contageous, from feeders.(from where other birds have spread germs) Clean them out and disinfect them.

Ginlyn, there was something on the news a while back about it and also an article in our local paper. Seems to have hit the house finches pretty bad.
