Typhoon Refugee

Tokyo, Japan

No. 21 has died down in the last hour, after destroying my garden once again (3rd time this year) with 140kph winds and torrential rain. :(

Found this little guy on top of some un-spiny cactus weathering out the storm. From this year's brood of Japanese Common Toad, Bufo japonicus formosus.

What a cute little guy. When I think Bufo, I think of those very large toads we have here now.

Tokyo, Japan

Oh yeah - they get huge here too! That's why I'm pretty sure this li'l feller hatched this year.

Oh how cute little frog.

Tokyo, Japan

They look cute Redrose, but when picked up they have a particularly not-cute defense tactic that I can't detail on this family-oriented site... ;)

Surely our sensibilities can be put to one side in the cause of education LOL???

Good find
:)

Ok folks - don't blame me; philomel made me do it. For educational purposes...

When picked up these toads, umm, let me find a proper euphemism...uhhh, they *tinkle* all over you.
Not just a little squirt either - this little devil had about three quarts in him....

= :-O

I hope you've washed your hands!

...........and used soap LOL

Although preferably not the anti microbial kind or your immune system may be compromised
;)

Baa - yes, after I finished wrapping that chocolate for you....

philomel - my immune system is rock-solid - I've survived Baa's poison barbs for almost three months now!

ROFL!!

Tokyo, Japan

"Rrrooooffle!"

Yes Floridian - that's the sound my innards made when I smelled this little gem-of-nature's defense tactic...

=8-(

Oh yum toad evacuation flavoured chocolate my favourite. I think I may have to scold the Phylobates terribilis into producing a stronger poison to tip the darts with.

Blow, winds, and crack your cheeks! rage! blow!
You cataracts and hurricanoes, spout
Till you have drench'd our steeples, drown'd the cocks!
You sulphurous and thought-executing fires,
Vaunt-couriers to oak-cleaving thunderbolts,
Singe my white head! And thou, all-shaking thunder,
Smite flat the thick rotundity o' the world!
Crack nature's moulds, and germens spill at once,
That make bilious Black Country lasses!

C'mon Baa - give me your best shot! I dare ya!!!!

Fie fie Sir, You threaten me with the Bard from my own lands?

Be wise as thou art cruel; do not press
My tongue-tied patience with too much disdain;
Lest sorrow lend me words and words express
The manner of my pity-wanting pain.

Tokyo, Japan

Ahhh - I've but one excuse: Jacques is talking about me.

A fool, a fool! I met a fool in the forest,
A motley fool; a miserable world!
As I do live by food, I met a fool
Who laid him down and bask'd him in the sun,
And rail'd on Lady Fortune in good terms,
In good set terms and, yet, a motley fool.

Many apologies O High Baa!!
This lowly thrall trembles at your reproof.

What fool is this?

Tokyo, Japan

One that hath been a courtier,
And says, if ladies be but young and fair,
They have the gift to know it: and in his brain,
Which is as dry as the remainder biscuit
After a voyage, he hath strange places cramm'd
With observation, the which he vents
In mangled forms.

Sound like my posts?

Thou shalt have your motley coat.

Mangled??? ... I'd have said maimed, but mangled is a resonable description.
