weird looking gourd/pumpkin/squash

i had a couple of volunteers come up this year and decided to go ahead and let them grow to see what would happen. well, one was a patty-pan squash that i had in the garden last year. the other is a weird-looking thing that looks like a cross between a pumpkin and a bushel gourd (a gourpkin?). it's also a little funny that i didn't have pumpkins or gourds growing last year. my neighbor had some gourds(birdhouse) last year and some pumpkins three years ago. my gourpkins started out a very pale green and then turn to a very pale tannish-orange. they have slightly pointed tops where they connect to the vine and shallow grooves along the body like a pumpkin. i wish i had the means to include a photograph with this post. i am a little intrigued to see if any of the seeds will grow next year. i will let you know if anyone is interested.
