I received a beautiful amarylis this past Xmas, and forced the bulb..and it was a beautiful red ..2 flowers in fact. Well, after doing that, I read somewhere that after a bulb is forced the odds are against it ever growing again. This spring I put it outside and have been watering it faithfully and low and behold....it lives!!!!!!! Now I have about a one inch shoot coming up from the bulb and I am ecstatic.I am also very lucky because before I knew any better, I put it in the ground tooo early in the spring. Believe me...the poor thing will never be forced again, but, instead it will be treated with extra care
Amarylis
The amaryllis I have had that were forced and kept in a pot subsequent years or put in the ground have continued to bloom right on. I haven't had a problem with that.
Apparently I won't either and after thinking that i had killed the bulb...i am very grateful
