I have a trillion (not really, just bunches) of green caterpillars with a long sticker looking thing on it's head or tail on my trumpet plant. They are really doing a job on my plant. Does anyone know what kind of butterfly these turn into, and if I can gather them up and move them to the weeds or someplace else without killing them. I'd hate to have them kill my plant. Sorry but I don't have the tools necessary to take a picture.
What is it?
is it this one?? http://www.chestnut-sw.com/gifimage/weekend/hornworm.jpg
Yes!! What is It?
it's a tomato hornworm, don't know latin name. But it grows up to be a hummingbird moth. Move it to something you don't mind it scalping, cause it will. and look for more, they don't come in ones!!
Thanks so much for the info. Hated to "kill" it if I didn't have to. Do you think it will be happy on lantana or just in the tall weeds?
I'd try! I had some tomato plants sitting in the compost pile I put them on. They do like plants from the nightshade family, tomatoes, peppers, and brugs.
