it's a hornworm. it will eat everything in sight, can clean a tomato plant in 24 hours. You could probably keep it overnight, put it in jar with holes and lots to eat. They turn into hummingbird moths, so cool, but they will destroy a garden doing it!!! I take some and put in the compost pile, some don't make it that far :)

I know for a fact they eat tomatoes, peppers, and brugs. Dont' know what else, but I had some tomato plants in the compost that I'd pulled up, so I just put some there. They are fascinating as a moth, they look like hummingbirds but at night.

They also eat Datura will strip them clean if you don't get them first.
