Ivy Bonsai

This was a first for me..I saw several bonsai trees grown from common English Ivy at Longwood Gardens..amazing!

I have seen pictures of them. I was in NC early this year visiting friends and they have an Ivy growing up a pine tree. The vine was about the size of a quarter, I wonder how long it would take an Ivy to grow that size.

Tim,
I have English Ivy growing up a tree and the vines are 6 inches in diameter..they look like fire hoses! The vines are so established that they even flower and produce seed. I heard they were planted at least 30 years ago. Unfortunately, I have to remove the vines or the tree will most likely die.

If you decided to remove the vines, then cut them down to about 12" and pot them up.
