Hydrenga (Lemon Wave)

Allen Park, MI(Zone 6a)

I bought a couple of new Hydrenga's this afternoon.
They are Hydrenga Lemon Wave. The leaves are varigated creamy white and medium green. They supposdely get 5-6' here in Michigan with a 3-4' spread. Blue flowers if the acidity of the soil is <6.5.
Does anyone out there have these if so how did they do?
They are really beautiful shrubs.
Thanks
Paul

Paul,

I had the varigated hydrangea with blue flowers, but I don't recall if it was the "Lemon" species or not. I found it not to be as hardy as my other hydrangeas here in S.E. Michigan zone 5b. I even put winter protection around it and mulched around it and most of it died back. It didn't die completely though but never got big enough to bloom for some reason. My girlfriend bought one the same time I did and hers died the first winter. I've always had great luck with the regular hydrangeas and mine is just loaded down with blooms right now. I've already been feeding it the aluminum sulfate to get those really blue flowers. Some years I either forget to do it or don't do it enough and I get some blooms that are blue, some pink and some purple.....very interesting comments I get ::grin

Good luck with yours!
