I think I have a rabbit eating my violets. Do rabbits like violets? Nothing else in the garden has been touched, but several violets are being mowed down (they even look like someone shaved them off). Any ideas on how to discourage whatever this is from eating my plants? I thought about putting out a big bowl of veggies at night so they'd have something else to eat. We live in the woods so we have lots of critters--I know they belong here and I like them, but I want my violets left alone. In all fairness, we're in a terrible drought and all our animals are hurting for food and water. I've been leaving out shallow pans of water for the squirrels and rabbits for weeks now. Should I feed them something else or just let them have my violets? Will the violets recover okay for next spring?
Chasing Off Rabbits
Yes, bunnies love them. Did you know you can candy violets and eat them? They are sweet! So no wonder the bunnies love them.
You could sprinkle cayenne pepper on the violets, rabbits don't like it at all. Have to re-sprinkle after rains.
We mow our violets down as they are a big part of our back yard and they come back stronger year after year...
If I were you I wouldn't fret about them, just let the bunnies munch. We believe that God put the violets there for the bunnies to eat anyway!
Hope this helps
Janie
